“Jolene” is a song by the American country singer Dolly Parton (1946–2026). The song was released as a single in the US and Canada on 15 October 1973 and appeared a few months later on her eponymous album. The record became a hit in a large number of countries and earned Dolly Parton her second number one hit on the US country music charts in her home country, the United States. “Jolene” is autobiographical, and features a woman who begs another, more attractive woman, named Jolene, not to take her husband away from her. Dolly Parton has said that shortly after she got married, a red-haired bank clerk was flirting with her husband, Carl Dean. She was given the name and title “Jolene” by a fan who once asked for her autograph. The arrangement for concert band, fanfare and brass band was written by Frank Bernaerts.
